We are seeking Postdoctoral research fellow to investigate the different adaptive strategies and activity of microbiomes in marine environments. These projects are part of a new multidisciplinary Horizon 2020 titled Atlantic ECOsystems assessment, forecasting & sustainability (AtlantECO). In collaboration with researchers from several three continents, the project broadly aims to develop and apply novel insights regarding functional community organization of microbiomes and the plastisphere in the Atlantic Ocean. Using metabarcoding, metatranscriptomes and metagenomics the project will provide fundamental insights regarding growth rates, genome size and metabolic potential of Atlantic microbiomes. The successful applicant will contribute to the training of MSc and PhD projects, which will include a series of related objectives aimed at resolving viral-host interactomes, a crucial regulator of carbon fluxes and plankton community dynamics, and the cross-kingdom interaction of viruses, prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

Your Profile:

We expect that the applicant has the following qualifications/skills:

- PhD within the field of microbiology, ecology, bioinformatics

- Interest and ability to use bioinformatics and statistics

- Motivation for independent scientific work

- Willingness to participate in research cruises
